Four Hundred & Twenty Nine

Theme: Christopher Johnson McCandless

If you're not interested in the McCandless family, then there is no need to read this entry, I won't be offended. I was looking through the Into The Wild forum today and I came across three letters written by Chris's sisters. I knew that Chris had a crappy upbringing, but the letters explained thing's in more depth, but still trying to keep certain details under wraps. I was shocked by the letters to be fair. They made me love and respect Chris more. I mean, I knew his parents (Walt and Billie) what pretty much assholes but I never realised how much of an asshole they were. To cut a long story short, Walt and Billie were very successful and financially well off people. However, Walt already had children with the wife (whom he was still married too). Which made the marriage with Billie fraudulent and in them days Chris, and Chris's sister, Carine, would have then known as "bastard children." (I hate that term so much). Anyway, the divorce paper's went through of Walt's first marriage, but he never actually paid any support dispute the fact that he, and Billie both were in pretty damn well paid jobs. When Chris died, Billie and Walt set up a charity in Chris's name. It was to help "single mothers with needy children." Yet in the letter's written by the daughter's of the McCandless family, they (and as do I) find it hypocritical and ironic that only now do they start to help out people, even though they couldn't be arsed to help out there own in the time of need.

I mean, I didn't like Billie or Walt before I read the letter's anyway. Simply because of what I already knew, but because of this one youtube clip that I seen. I may have mentioned it before in another blog entry. When Billie and Walt went to visit the bus where their own son, Chris, had died and his mum (Billie) said "Chris wrote a quote "happiness can only be real when shared - or something like that" excuse me? Something like that? Your son has died, and you can't even remember one of the most important quotes that he has written? I personally just think that show's how little they actually give a shit.

Another thing that also came up in the letters (Carine's letter to be specific) was that Billie and Walt would twist the truth and many thing's that happened to Chris when he was growing up was left out of the book and the film. After talking to many people who know Chris's story, also agree that Walt and Billie still continue to hide the truth, and that's also coming from Chris's sister, Carine.
